Travel: Camping in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom, September, 2015

While millions of my fellow technology lovers were queued up at their favorite web browser to pre-order the new iPhone 6s / 6s+, I was sleeping under the stars and enjoying the quiet. The view of the sky from my house is pretty darn good but we do have some light pollution from Dartmouth Hospital about 10 miles away. Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom is an amazing place. When it’s not covered in snow, you can have a great time by yourself or with friends. Everything you want to do is 30-45 minutes away by car but if you want to do little except hike, cook, read and stargaze, there’s nothing holding you back. Some friends have a few hundred acres and they invite us up nearly every weekend. I went on July 4th and it was a lot of people. This trip was a bit more relaxed with Heather and I alone on Friday and 2 more joining us on Saturday. I didn’t want the weekend to end.

On Saturday, we took some of the afternoon to visit my favorite New Hampshire brewery, Schilling in Littleton and then off to Parker Pie and Hill Farmstead to see some beer-friends and enjoy some of the best beers in the country.
