Travel: Memorial Day in Northern Maine

Last week, I loaded up the car and drove over 200 miles to a small corner of Maine with 2 bars, a closed down bowling alley, a locally owned grocery and ice cream stand and decided that wasn’t remote enough and went 15 miles outside of town to a desolate lake with no boat access and setup camp in an old cabin.

This small cabin owned by a retired couple had running water thanks to a  pump that fed directly from the lake and electricity but that’s it for amenities. No locks on the door, very few lights and a tiny stove and fridge. For 3 nights, I got to relax, unwind, read, write and work on my tan out on the lake in a tiny row-boat.

I know it seems like I travel a lot but this was probably the first true getaway in a very long time. I should do more weekends like this.

Despite living in a very rural part of New Hampshire, I could get used to a place that’s this remote.
