★ Review: Super Blueberry Beer Tasting Extravaganza

Last week, a few friends came to my place. I cooked BBQ and we enjoyed some of my home-brews. Then, we cracked open some delicious beers! Here some tasting notes and photos from that evening. Thanks Dave, Wally, John, Jen and my GF for coming over for a delicious evening!

2011 Vintage. Shared with some great friends at our Blueberry tasting event. Poured into a Hill Farmstead glass

A – SRM of 18. Dark red / amber appearance. Bubbly head that fades incredibly fast.

S – Lactic and vinegar scent. Slight hint of blueberries and some tart almost raspberry nose as well.

T – Yeah. Nice pleasant blueberry taste that fades quickly to akin to an apple cider vinegar.Taking a mouthful of it and doing a light swish, I”m picking out more of the sweet blueberry taste.

M – Nice blueberry skin tanning dryness. Super fleeting sweetness. 50/50 carbonation on my mouth swish. Light body and yeah. Super insane dry finish like eating a lot of blueberries.

O – Yeah, the start of this glass was pretty weak and bland and very much an apple cider acidic bomb. Then, as it breathed, the blueberries came out nicely. It’s nice. 89/100. Not fantastic but a solid American Wild beer with a nice Blueberry sweetness.

Upland Blueberry

Upland Brewing - Blueberry Lambic

   AROMA 8/10   APPEARANCE 5/5   TASTE 8/10   PALATE 4/5   OVERALL 17/20

2010 Vintage. 9/27/10. Shared with friends at our intense Blueberry tasting extravaganza.

A – Wow. Very beautiful. Extremely blueberry like color. Dark purple red appearance. Minor level of foam at the top mostly around the edges.

S – Wow. Great apricot and mango scent. Excellent blueberry notes as well. Acedic smell of apples maybe? Nice tropical wild smell.

T – Yeah. Very nice blueberry taste. Excellent dry sweetness. Very minor amount of oakiness. I’m getting very faint amount of Frambois characteristics but honestly it’s just that fruity tartness. For sure, just like eating raw blueberries with a slight bit of wheat / withier notes.

M – 60/40 carbonation on the mouth swish. Ultra light body and the intense dryness this beer leaves you with is very amazing. My teeth are chalky.

O – This is much better than the Cascade Blueberry. 95/100. Excellent blueberry taste, ultra dry finish.

Wild Heritage – Busted Compass Brewery Shared with some great friends. Blueberry Tasting Extravaganza. Enjoyed in a Hill Farmstead Glass. 2011 Vintage.

A – Gorgeous plum red appearance. Nice purple hues. Small amount of bubbles lining the edges of the glass.

S – Wow. yeah. I get the blueberry sweetness on the nose. I also get this apple cider vinegar sort of mild peach scent and this wild funky back of the throat sting that’s quick and fleeting.

T – Yeah. This is terrific. Ultra acidic sweetness with fresh picked blueberries. Freshfresh fresh. This is very tasty. I’m also getting strawberries. It’s a high acidity and pretty funky. It’s a fantastic beer.

M – 40% carbonation on the mouth swish. Very light body. Slick and oily and this oily dry finish.

O – Oh yes. I don’t know what’s better. I’m trying to give this a very fair and un-biased review but the guy that brewed it poured it for me and it’s an absolute pleasure to enjoy this with him and our friends. Still, without the connection to the brewery, this is a delicious beer I’d have every day. 95/100.

Ithaca Excelsior! Le Bleu

Le Bleu Sour Blueberry Ale

Batch 2. Shared with some friends at our Blueberry extravaganza.

A – Golden orange appearance. Slight level of sediment. 1-finger head that subsided quickly.

S – I’m not getting any blueberry on the nose. Very funky wild scent. Horse blanket and funk. Some strawberry scent.

T – Wow. This is incredible. Amazing acetic taste that really exploded in my mouth. Very well balanced blueberry taste that is like others and very much characteristic of dry skin and intense sweetness. Once the beer breathes a bit, the blueberries really come forward.

M – 75% carbonation on the mouth swish. Medium body. HUGE dry grape skin

O – Very nice. 95/100. Really big blueberry taste, ultra dry grape skin mouth feel and fleeting sweetness. This is a terrific and very drinkable beer.
