★ “Apple previews new $299 64-bit Final Cut Pro X to arrive in June”

via AppleInsider:

Apple boasted that there are 2 million Final Cut Pro users with a 94 percent satisfaction rate. It also said that Final Cut Pro is growing twice as fast as its competitors, and said that Adobe and Avid are “in a race for second place.”

If you’re half-way technical, a developer, an iMovie user or filmmaker, you should read this post.

  • Developers need to take notice how much cool & awesome features were built into this that are all available to you guys via Xcode.
  • Filmmakers need to look at the features and start saving up to buy a copy today. Even if you love Avid, $299 is what you spend on Hard Drives and mini DV tapes each month so just buy it and play around. You will fall in love.
  • iMovie users, save your pennies and ditch iMovie. After 4 hours in Final Cut Pro, you’ll never want to go back to iMovie. If you have kids, you’re going to want to buy this. I wouldn’t recommend FCP to anyone before because, at $999, you’d either pirate it or not buy it at all. At $299, one-click via the App Store, it’s expensive but is the tool movie houses are using to make blockbuster pictures. You’re using a professional suite for the price of a week of groceries.
  • Apple fanboys, you’re going to read it anyway…you know you want to.

I’m buying a copy of this. I’m an FCP user from way back in version 2. I switched to Final Cut Express because the install size was smaller and upgrade pricing was cheaper. 64-bit+background rendering+native editing in any compression+4K support+grand central support+cocoa written+new UI+built in colorSync and more…it’s just a phenomenal upgrade for 1/4th the price of the previous version.

Buy it.
