★ Speaking at SMC’s “The Power of Social Networks”

I’ve been very fortunate to have friends in the industry that have invited me to speak at their events. They’ve all been small events and I haven’t been paid for the privilege but the opportunity to share my thoughts on the industry among my peers is always an honor. This time around, I’ll be a panalist at a Social Media Club meetup in San Jose. The theme is “The Power of Social Networks” as it relates to business and specifically enterprise business. I’m also extremely lucky to be a panelist alongside Tara Hung and Clara Shih who are both very talented authors.

I met Tara for the first time at Tech Karaoke San Francisco which I think was in August and she was working on her book The Whuffie Factor. Since then, she and I haven’t ever sat down but I’ve certainly put her on my list of talented people I’d like to have coffee with. I don’t know anything about Clara (even though I should) but her book, The Facebook Era, is fantastic.

So why am I up there as a panelist? I continually tell people that I’m just a guy with a blog and I think I’ll keep that as my pitch. Everyone says to work on that pitch but there’s no need. I meet new people and make new friends organically without shameless self promotion and that’s just my style. My group of friends is small but I have friends and not a ton of business cards that don’t truly affect my health or happiness.

I’d like all of my friends and readers to try and make it to this meetup. It’s going to be great. Here’s the description.

For the Social Media Club’s April event we will be looking into the power of social networks.  We are excited to kick off the evening with a half-hour fireside chat with John Hagel, network effects expert and Director at Deloitte Consulting LLP. After the chat Chris Heuer will moderate a discussion with a panel of distinguished social media authors who will share their insights on social networking channels, such as Facebook and Twitter, and provide details on how these tools can powerfully function in the enterprise to help companies accomplish real business objectives.
We will be joined by authors:
  • Clara Shih, author of The Facebook Era
  • Tara Hunt, author of The Whuffie Factor
  • Adam Jackson, author of 140 Characters
In addition to picking up some real-world social media case studies and tips you may also walk away with a free copy of Clara’s book!  We will be raffling off a few copies at the end of the event.
We are currently looking for sponsors to cover food and beverages.  Please contact kristie [at] socialmediaclub.org if you are interested in supporting this local chapter event.
We look forward to seeing you!

The event takes place on April 21st in San Jose. I’ll actually be trying to get a ride down there if anyone is interested in helping. If not, I’ll have to get a zip car for 3 hours which is a bit pricey. You can purchase tickets at the link below.

  1. Hey Adam! It's amazing how the world works and how interconnected everything is. Just look at the friends in common you have w/ people on FB for instance…the organic friends. Glad to be able to share a few moments and a comment to test out your new FB connect integration.

Best of luck from another Adam!

  2. Adam- Hey congrats on being invited as a panelist. Thats awesome! You must be doing something right and are respected in some respects to have been invited. Kudos! I have to say you are a stand up guy and a good friend. I remember 'meeting' you when you did that informal attempt to raise some money for Podango/ and your friend. That told me a lot about you and your character. I hope to catch some recording of this event. I'd love to hear what you have to say. Good luck.-Drew

  3. Adam, take Caltrain down, I can pick you up @ the Santa Clara station (v close to my offc) and also close to KNTV. U can get some work done on the way as opposed to driving in traffic. See you next Wed

  4. Will be w/ you in spirit, but I can't make it to SJ. Did pre-order The Whuffie Factor. LMK when The Book is avail for pre-order.

FYI – you are the only person who can convince me to use a Facebook product – you tweeted about how I feel about FB, so this should not be a surprise. The things I do for Adam Jackson!
